Vera J. (Harper) Korpal

Mrs. Vera J. Korpal, 76, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Monday evening, Aug. 25, at Memorial Hospital. She was born on Dec. 20, 1920, in South Bend, to Clem J. and Louise C. (Koehler) Harper.

She is survived by her husband, Sylvester E. "Les" Korpal of South Bend; her daughter, Mrs. Christy (William) Squadroni of Greenville, S.C.; and by a brother, C. Eugene Harper of LaPorte, Ind.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth L. Barker in 1991.

Mrs. Korpal was a lifelong resident of South Bend, retired from the South Bend Toy Company, and also worked for Real Services. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, and was a member of the church choir and the Woman's Guild of the church. She held membership in the D Delta Zeta Chapter of the Sigma Alpha Society, and was a national officer and Golden Award member. She was also a member of the American Business Woman's Association.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Alva F. Hohl, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the American Cancer Society
