PHYLLIS (CLOETINGH) HAMILTON

SOUTH BEND - Phyllis (Cloetingh) Hamilton passed away after a brief illness on October 24, 2009, in Greeley, Colo-rado, where she was a resident of the Life Care Center of Greeley. Phyllis was born August 3, 1920, in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late James and Anna (Neil-son) Cloetingh. On December 1, 1951, she mar-ried the late Harold Gage Hamilton, who lovingly called her "Phyd."
Phyllis was also preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Cloetingh Ehlers, her husband, Harold Hamilton, her daughter, Martha Hamilton Wheeler, and her great-grandson David James Harris. She is survived by three daughters, Tina (Dick) Wise of Englewood, Colo-rado, Julie (Mark) John-son of Greeley, Colorado, and Patti (Ken) Wilkinson of Arlington, Texas. Affectionately, she was called "Grandma Sweetie" by her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1939, and then went on to Indiana University where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. In June 1943 she graduated from the Art Institute of Chi-cago with a degree in In-terior Design.
Phyllis worked as a designer for Marshall Fields in Chi-cago, but for most of her life she had her own busi-ness, Phyllis Cloetingh Hamilton Interiors. Phyllis was a member of Altrusa International, Service Guild, Panhellenic Association, Tri-Delta Alumni, and "The Bridge Club." She also served on the memorial Hospital auxiliary board and served on the vestry of St. Mi-chael and All Angels Church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Michael and All Angles on Dec. 6th at 2:30 p.m. fol-lowed by a reception in the church. In lieu of flowers, memo-rial contributions may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Church or to the Mental Health Association.
