John M. Burgess

SOUTH BEND John Maxwell Burgess, 71, of 125 Beverly Court, Michigan City, formerly of South Bend, died at 4 p.m. Monday in St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City, after an illness. Mr. Burgess retired in 1986 as a tool and die maker from Krizman Manufacturing, Mishawaka. He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Banquo, Ind., Huntington County, coming to Michigan City in 1989 from South Bend.

On Aug. 12, 1946, he married Virginia B. Zbieranski. She died March 6, 1982. On March 31, 1989, in Michigan City, he married Marilyn (Maack) Aust.

She survives, with a daughter, Charlotte Zircher of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Mary Lou Cady of Frankfort, Ky.; a stepson, William D. Aust of Michigan City; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Freidline and Helen Sweeney, both of South Bend, and Mary Eldridge of Elkhart; and three brothers, Harold of San Carlos, Calif., Bruce of Newhall, Calif., and Stewart Burgess of South Bend.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Michigan City, Masonic Lodge 294, and Avalon Grotto.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to ! 9 p.m. Wednedsay in Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City, and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday in the church.
