Robert L. Turnock

Robert L. Turnock, 81, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2002. He lived in South Bend all of his life.
Robert was born on March 6, 1920 in South Bend, the son of John and Rose (Casey) Turnock Sr. They preceded him in death. He graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1939. Robert served his country during World War I1, in the 99th Division of the 393rd Infantry of the United States Army.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Freddie (Krauss) Turnock in 1998. They were married in South Bend, Indiana on September 13, 1947.
Robert is survived by one son, Thomas L. Turnock of Laguna Beach, CA and two grandchildren, Todd Turnock and Kerri (Turnock) Mattern. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Turnock Jr. and Russell Turnock.
Robert retired after teaching for 32 years with the South I Bend Community School System. He was a basketball assistant coach at Central High School when they won the 1953 State Championship. He retired in 1982 from Clay High School as a counselor and athletic director. He graduated from Indiana State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Education, and a Master's Degree in guidance in 1955.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2002 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor Street, South Bend. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where a prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
