NEW CARLISLE - Betty Jane Barley, 86, of Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle, formerly of York Road, South Bend, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, in Regency Place of South Bend.

Betty was born on June 9, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Robert Owen and Faye Belle (Kuhn) Carpenter. On May 30, 1941, in South Bend, Betty married Lawrence Richard Barley, who preceded her in death.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Janice (Donald) Hunter of Granger and Carol (Norm) Satkoski of Carmel; a son, Lawrence Barley of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Lawrence R. Barley Jr. of Fayetteville, New York, Charles D. Barley of Albany, New York, David Hunter and Donald Benjamin Hunter, both of South Bend, Jessica Satkoski of Davis, CA, Aaron Satkoski of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Christopher Satkoski of West Lafayette; two great-grandchildren, Katharina Rose and John Alexander Barley of Fayetteville, New York; a sister, Joan Whitesel of South Bend; and a brother, Robert (Sue) Carpenter of Prescott Valley, AZ.

Betty was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), Presbyterian Players, St. Matthew's Cathedral, and was a graduate of Central High School.

A memorial funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place at the Welsheimer Crematory. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Berrien Springs, MI.
