Bertha M. "Bert" (Zubras) Thornton

NILES - Bertha M. "Bert" Thornton, 70, 1633 Grant St., Niles, died Friday at her residence, following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, South Bend, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Niles.

Memorials may be. made to St. Mary Elementary School Library.

Mrs. Thornton was born Aug. 17, 1920, in South Bend, Ind. She was a lifelong area resident and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include: a daughter, Cynthia Isabell of Niles; a son, Van of Niles; two brothers, Vincent Zubras of Dallas, and Robert Zubras of Houston; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald B. "Tootie" Thornton on Sept. 3, 1989.
