SOUTH BEND — Charles D.“Chuck” Veach, 91, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Sterling House. Charles was born December 14, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Charles W.and Florence H. (Powell) Veach.

On December 5, 1943, in South Bend, Charles married Laura Belle Maggert, who passed away June 14, 2000, after 57 years of mar- riage. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Freda (Charlie) Smith, Ruth (Walter) Cogburn, Mary Kay (Bob) Fitzgerald, Betty Jean (John) Rupe; and son-in-law, Donald Berta.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Julie Ann Berta of South Bend; son, C.Joel (Nancy) Veach of South Bend; two granddaughters, Lori L.(Michael) Farinella and Jill C.Canton (Bill Upton); four great-grandchildren, Joshua M.Miller, Mika Branden Farinella, Taylor Marie Farinella and Brad Khody Canton.

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S.Navy during WW II in the Pacific Theatre.He was a longtime realtor, broker and property manager at Anchor Sales, sales manager, awning designer at Dutron Corp.in South Bend, and salesman at Office Mart in Niles, MI. He and Laura had been members of First Baptist Church for 80 years, and attended Northway Church of Christ. In 1982 he was founder of Michiana B.M.W. Motorcycle Club-M.O.A. #122, and was a former instructor for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, (Mausoleum) Granger, with Rev.Ed Erskin officiating. Friends may visit with the family 4 till 8:00 pm Monday, April 16, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend.
