Rolland Dale Ullery

R. Dale Ullery, 93, Kokomo, passed away at 12:27 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Northwoods Village. He was born April 21, 1921 in Granger, IN the son of Claude D. and Elizabeth Ullery.

He was a 1939 graduate of South Bend Central High School. Dale served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps where he served as a Staff Sargent in aircraft maintenance and supply.

He was a Kokomo business owner for several years owning and operating Ullery Auto Supply until 1970. He then started a new career as an automobile salesman retiring in 1987. After retiring, he worked for his son at Craftsman Builders for ten years. He enjoyed woodworking and was known for his elaborate cross stitching.

Survivors include two sons, W. Michael (Laura) Ullery and Rolland D. (Marlene) Ullery Jr. both of Kokomo; two daughters, Janet E. (Greg) Dieterly of Kokomo and Teresa J. (Randy) Portell of Zionsville, IN; grandchildren, Maura (Dale) Janssen, Andrea (Brian) Lohman, Vanessa (Gregory) Tyler, Chad (Lindsay) Pyle, Julie (Andrew) Mullens, Ryan (Sara) Pyle, Adam Dieterly and Michael (Rachel) Portell; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Florence Ullery of South Bend, IN; as well as a dear friend, Wilma Mason of Kokomo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services celebrating Dale’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday December 22, 2014 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road with Pastor Jerry Ausbrook officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the VFW Military Rites Team preceding services. Private entombment of Dale’s cremains will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kokomo Urban Outreach.
