Vern G. Scott

SOUTH BEND - Vern G. Scott, 88, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, in Surprise, Arizona. Mr. Scott was born May 9, 1921, in South Bend, to Vern G. and Gladys (Campbell) Scott.

On May 16, 1942, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Ellis, who preceded him in death on August 25, 1985. Then on January 6, 1990, in South Bend, he married Marian R. Moore Simcox, who passed away on April 13, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Milbourn, on June 24, 2009, and by a stepson-in-law, Ken Coddens, on March 24, 2009.

He is survived by two daughters, Sue (Forest) Milbourn of South Bend and Peggy (Ron) Akin of Surprise, AZ; a son, Richard (Sandra) Scott of North Liberty; and two stepdaughters, Barbara Coddens and Judy Simcox, both of Mishawaka. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Scott retired as a lathe operator with South Bend Lathe. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
