Joan (Schleiger) Johnson

SOUTH BEND — Joan (Schleiger) Johnson, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jan.1, 2013. Born July 31, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Louis F.and Vivian E. (French) Schleiger. A brother, Frederick Schleiger, also preceded her in death.
On May 30, 1942, Joan married Lester R. Johnson.He preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include two children, Greg (Louann) Johnson of Granger, Rebecca (Peter) Siciliano of Darien, CT; one sister, Joyce Kruyer of San Antonio, TX; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Kimball of Dale City, VA, and Anne Schleiger of Mishawaka IN; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are lifelong friends the Coe, Fred Gall, and Shafer families.
Joan was a wonderful wife, mother and grand-mother. She cared very much for her family and always wanted to know what her children & grandchildren were doing. She was a member of the Connecticut Daughters of the War of 1812 & the DAR. She was also head of recruiting volunteers of the Women’s Auxiliary Corps during World War II.
