Bernard “BJ” Palkowski
June 10, 1921 – June 23, 2007
WARSAW — Bernard “BJ” Palkowski, 86, formerly of Johnson Street, South Bend passed away in his home in Warsaw on Saturday June 23. BJ was born in South Bend on June 10 1921, the son of John and Catherine (Chudzinski) Palkowski.On June 6, 1942, in South Bend, he married the former Florence Muzolf who preceded him in death in 1997.
He is survived by a daughter, Cassandra “Sandy”(John) Bruner of Pierceton;and four grandchildren, Todd (Nanda) Green of Salt Lake City, UT, Bruce Bruner of Fort Pierce, FL, Kelley and BJ O’Connor of Indianapolis and Kelly “Peter” and Kathy Green of Huntertown, IN.Mr.Palkowski also leaves eight great-grandchildren;two sisters, Tillie (Fred) Gnott and Florence Rafalski;and a brother, Al “Winker”Palkowski, all of South Bend.
He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S.Army during World War II.Prior to his retirement, he and his wife, “Flossie”operated Ben’s Marathon Station of Sample Street. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 553 and donations in his memory may be made to Gibault Inc, 6301 South Highway 41, Terre Haute, IN 47802.
