SOUTH BEND - Paul Muszik, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth Peiffer in Colleyville, TX. He was born on March 13, 1921, to the late Julius and Frances (Retek) Muszik in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents, three sisters, Helen Sieron, Theresa Voorde and Frances Eckenrode, and a brother, Julius Musick, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Muszik retired in 1969 from the South Bend Fire Department, where he worked as a firefighter for 20 years.

On February 7, 1948, he married Anna Lehner at St. Mary Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Muszik of South Bend, IN; five daughters, Frances A. (James) Sodetz of Columbia, SC, Barbara J. (Don) Speranza of Winston Salem, NC, Elizabeth M. (Michael) Peiffer of Colleyville, TX, Mary M. (Doug) Senkbeil of Redondo Beach, CA, and Margaret M. Fortune of Redondo Beach, CA; one son, Paul (Patricia) Muszik of Canton, MI; 11 grandchildren, Paul (Jennifer) Muszik III, Laura (Michael) Kopec, Alicia (Ryan) Spangler, Steven (Beth) Desch, Katie (Chris) Ruzin, Laurie (Adam Klein) Desch, Austin Peiffer, Emily and Angela Senkbeil, Jessica and Paul Fortune; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Muszik was a member of Holy Cross Parish and the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.). He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he received a Purple Heart Medal for a wound sustained in action in Tunisia, North Africa. He participated in battles and campaigns as a member of Battery B, 395th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes.
