Virginia "Ginny" Nielsen, 86, of Villa Drive died at 2:53 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac City, Mich.

Mrs. Nielsen was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

Calling will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday at Hathaway-Myers Dignity Memorial Chapel on Pearl Street. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Joseph McNally officiating. At Mrs. Nielsen's request, cremation will follow, and burial will be at a later date.

Born in South Bend on Aug. 22, 1920, Mrs. Nielsen was the daughter of Charles and Katherine Weiss Lamirand.

She married John A. Nielsen in October 1942, in South Bend. She was preceded in death by her husband March 26, 1993.

Survivors include sons, Eric C. (Brenda) Nielsen of Columbus and John A. (Christine) Nielsen of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Krissann (Greg) Renner of Columbus; grandchildren, Branden Renner of Indianapolis, Leslie Renner of Indianapolis, Stefanie Renner of Indianapolis, Liz Renner of Columbus, Andy Nielsen of Columbus, Mike Nielsen of Columbus and Ted and Maureen Huber and family.
