Joseph J. Huber

Joseph J. Huber, 80, of South Send, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend. Mr. Huber was born on July 12, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Rose (Kovatch) Huber. He was employed by the South Bend Fire Department for 24 years. He also was employed by the Sweeper Company for 22 years, before his retirement.

On September 14, 1946, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, South Bend, he married Rita A. Nowacki, who survives. Also surviving with his wife of 54 years is one daughter, Connie (Thomas) Underly of South Bend; one son, Joseph (Janice) Huber, of Greenwood, IN; three grandchildren, Kaycene and Matthew Underly, both of South Bend, and Jennifer Huber of New Orleans, LA; two sisters, Rosemary Sergeant and Jeanette Orlowski, both of South Bend; two brothers, John Huber and Francis Huber, both of South Bend, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Huber was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Bend. He also belonged to the Leighton Center for Senior Living, the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council n 553, the Golden Cluster of St. Hedwig's Church, the Harvest House of Holy Cross, the Fireman's Association, and the American Legion Post #357.

Mr. Huber was a WW II Army Veteran.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, today, May 7, 2001, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a 6 PM Parish Rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2001, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Belinski, C.S.C. officiating.

Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
