BETTY J. (HARRISON) STUTSMAN

SOUTH BEND - Betty Jane Stutsman, 87, of Columbia City, IN, formerly of South Bend, died at 12:00 a.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009, in The Oaks Nursing Home, Columbia City, following an illness. Mrs. Stutsman was born May 1, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Pearl (Ellingwood) Harrison, and had lived her entire life in South Bend until moving to Columbia City in June 2007.
On July 24, 1971, in South Bend, she married Charles Stutsman, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Julie Stutsman; two sisters, Genevieve Hazen and Beatrice Mason; and four brothers, Robert, Charles, Ralph and Elbert Harrison.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Harrison, several nieces and nephews, and a step- grandson.
Betty retired from the Bendix Corporation in 1976 after 33 years service. She was a graduate of the former South Bend Central High School and was a member of the Beta Chapter of Kappa Phi Sigma sorority. She loved to play bridge with her bridge club and also was known to bowl a few frames at the bowling alley.
There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place with burial to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN, next to her parents.
