Benjamin R. Golubski

April 13, 1920- March 13, 2005

Benjamin R. Golubski, 84, of South Bend, passed from this life to eternal life on Sunday, March 13, 2005. Ben was born on April 13, 1920, in South Bend, to Walter and Genevieve (Starczewski) Golubski, and had lived in South Bend his entire life. On June 15, 1946, Ben married Jean Kuzmits in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church.

The couple had three children. Ben is survived by his wife and their children, Rebecca (Sohail) Bahu of South Bend, Suzanne Herbert of New York City and Joseph Golubski of South Bend. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Maria and Jean Marie Bahu.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mona Bahu.

For more than 20 years Ben was a member of the South Bend-Mishawaka Board of Realtors and he owned and operated City-Wide Realty. Ben was a devoted Catholic who attended Mass frequently. For 50 years he was an active usher at Holy Cross Church. Ben was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 553, where he was 3rd degree Knight. Ben is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Throughout his life, Ben was a good neighbor and an active member of the community who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Ben was a caring man, known for his easygoing manner and good sense of humor. Ben loved to go polka dancing and take out his wife to dinner on Sundays. Ben also enjoyed taking his young son to the airport each week to look at the airplanes and learn about flying. Ben was an excellent storyteller and he used to entertain family and friends with colorful stories about growing up in the area. Ben was a man of many talents, ranging from his aptitude for doing financial calculations to cartoon drawings, handy work around the house, and cooking and baking.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects to Ben on Thursday, March 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road.

A parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited there at 3 p.m. on Thursday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 18, at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church on North Wilber Street. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
