J. LEE FLANAGAN

July 19, 1921 - April 17, 2012
SOUTH BEND - J. Lee Flanagan, 90, of South Bend, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012. He was born July 19, 1921, in New Castle, IN, to the late William and Irene (Tucker) Flanagan.

He graduated from Central High School in 1939 and South Bend College of Commerce in 1941.

On September 26, 1942, in South Bend, Lee married Bette Jane (Barbier), who passed away January 30, 1989.

He was employed by the Indiana & Michigan Electric Co., now the Indiana Michigan Power Co. on April 1, 1941, where he served in various capacities for 41 years in South Bend, Benton Harbor, and Ft. Wayne, IN, retiring February 1, 1982, as South Bend Division Manager.

Lee proudly served his country in the U S Navy during World War II, from 1942 till 1945, as a petty officer, and 2nd class in Naval Intelligence. In the South Bend community, he served in various community activities, such as the Chamber of Commerce, The Industrial Foundation and United Way. He served on the Board of Trustees of Memorial Hospital and was a director of the National Bank & Trust Co., and its successor, Interstate Bank, South Bend.

He was a member and director of the Indiana Club and past director of the South Bend Country Club. He was also a member of Lake Shore Masonic Lodge #298 F&AM Benton Harbor, and South Bend Consistory 32nd degree, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Goose & Duck Club of South Bend, and the Orchard Hills Country Club.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Lee Flanagan and Lori Ann (John) Ferro, both of Niles, MI; son, William Richard (Corinne) Flanagan of Granger; brother, Gerald (Sharon) Flanagan of South Bend; and eight grandchildren, Lindsay, Jessica, Emily and Dominick Ferro, all of Niles, Christopher Flanagan of Granger, Kevin Flanagan, of Lafayette, IN, Paul (Leslie) Flanagan of Chattanooga, TN, and Katie Flanagan of Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with burial at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 4 till 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, in the funeral home, with a Masonic memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 208 S.
