Barbara (Downing) Phillips

Barbara J. Phillips, 56, of Monticello, Ind., a former South Bend resident, died at 3:15 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was ill two and a half months. She was a former auditor and director of CETA programs in White County. She was born on Jan. 16, 1922, in Fort Wayne and moved to Monticello from South Bend 20 years ago.

As Barbara J. Graff, she married Edward P. Phillips. He survives with two daughters, Mrs. Jenine Kuhman of Watseka, Ill. and Mrs. Janice Hohenberger of Kokomo, Ind.; six grandchildren; a brother, Jack Downing, and her her mother, Mrs. Jessie Baker, both of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, Ironwood Chapel, 1435 S. Ironwood. Rev. Raymond Warren, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St Joseph Valley Memorial Gardens, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
