SOUTH BEND - Warren D. "Pete" Ashley, 93, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Healthwin Specialized Care. Warren was born September 2, 1921, in South Bend, to Clarence M. and Ethel M. (Bestle) Ashley. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Palm and Jean Collins.
On October 8, 1944, in South Bend, Warren married Aletha B. (Walters), who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Joan M. Blackford, Connie R. (Thomas) Kio, and RaeAnn B. (Donald) Chupp, all of South Bend; two sons, Dale L. Ashley and Donald E. Ashley, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Renee Thompson, Aaron Ashley, Joy Vanator, Jennifer Alsfasser, Sara Thomaszewski, Ashley Clash, and Andrew Chupp; ten greatgrandchildren, Alyssa and Kylie Vanator, Trevor and Braydon Ashley, Carter and Peyton Alsfasser, Ashlynn and Addilynn Thomaszewski, Mikaela and Mason Clash; and one sister, Betty Slater of California.
Warren worked as a farmer most of his lifetime, Torrington Company, and Indiana Toll Road. He was a lifetime member of Northwest United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, and Pheasant Forever Club in Elkhart. Warren enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, flower gardening, feeding birds and squirrels, and loved nature.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road, South Bend, IN 46628, with Rev. Vickie Van Nevel officiating. Friends may visit with the family immediately after services, where a luncheon will be served.
