Evelyn Accoe VanPuyvelde

Evelyn VanPuyvelde, 95, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Friendship Manor Silver Cross, Rock Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 3:30-6pm Wednesday at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline with an Altar and Rosary Society rosary recited at 3pm. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or Parkinson ’s Disease Foundation.

Evelyn was born February 10, 1922 in South Bend, IN the daughter of Achiel and Rosalie (Lootens) Accoe. She married Albert VanPuyvelde on May 28, 1949 at Christ the King Church, South Bend, IN. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2016.

Evelyn was a Navy Wave during World War II. She worked at the former Adult Mentally Handicapped of Rock Island County as Activities Supervisor and later was a tax auditor for the IRS.

Evelyn was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Center for Belgian Culture where she and her husband, Albert initiated the waffle breakfast and traveled with their waffle wagon to many events in and out of Illinois, Rock Island Lady Elks, Waves National Unit #105 where she was president and American Legion Post 246, Moline. She and Albert were talented enthusiastic dancers and she was an avid bridge player.

Among survivors are her sisters-in-law, Helen Accoe, South Bend, IN and Pauline Accoe, Dowagia, MI; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Bokon and brothers, George and Richard Accoe.
