L. Chester Franckowiak

L. Chester Franckowiak, 73, of Fort Wayne, formerly of South Bend, died Friday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Fort Wayne, following a brief illness. He was the founder and owner of L. Chester Furs of Fort Wayne until 1980, and he also was affiliated with Franckowiak Furs of South Bend.
Born on May 27, 1909, in St. Paul, Minn., he moved to South Bend in 1911, where he resided for many years.
On Sept. 19, 1940, in Fort Wayne, he married Emily Rodenbeck, who survives. He also is survived by a son, Dr. Charles H. Franckowiak of Pontiac, Mich.; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Helen F. Elliott of South Bend; and a brother, Lucien S. Franckowiak of South Bend.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, and burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery there. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the McComb Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
He was a graduate of Central High School in South Bend and attended the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and a life member of Elks Lodge, all of Fort Wayne.
