Carl Hibberd, 63, of 1029 E. Wayne, a longtime South Bend businessman, was found dead about 5 p.m. Friday in a car parked in a garage at a vacant house at 1926 Summersworth. Dr. Louis Grwinski, county coroner, ruled the death a suicide, and said Hibberd, died of carbon monoxide poisoning. He indicated that Hibberd had been dead about three days. The coroner said the real estate salesman reportedly had been despondent and confirmed a note had been found near the body.

Hibberd, a salesman for Cressy and Everett Realty, had not been seen since, Tuesday, Anthony George, a Cressy. and Everett employee, told city police, George went to the Summersworth address which is listed for, sale with the company after finding a note on Hibberd's desk which indicated Hibberd could be at that address.

George called police after finding Hibberd's body lying on the back seat of the car. Police officers said they found a note containing funeral instructions on the roof of the car.

Born on Dec. 4, 1917, in South Bend, he had lived here all his life. He is survived by a brother, Alan

He was a member of the church, a member and past master of Lodge 294 F&AM, the South Bend Elks, the Indiana Club, the founder and first president of the South Bend Jaycees. He had attended DePauw University. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice
