SOUTH BEND - Emery M. Vanslager, Indiana 2, died at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday in Medco Center, after an illness.
Mr. Vanslager retired in 1980 from City Pattern & Manufacturing Co. as a patternmaker after 56 years of service. He was born April 28, 1918, South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
He is survived by a former wife, Irene Vanslager of South Bend; five daughters, Renee Gordon and Patricia Littke, both of South Bend, Sandra Vanslager of Granger, Janice Ward of Montgomery, Ala., Cynthia Mingus of Athens, Ala.; five sons, Randall of South Bend, Barry of Granger, Michael of St. Charles, Ill., Christopher of Beverly Hills, Mich., and Timothy of New Carlisle; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Pattermaker League of North America, Michiana Polka Mass Singers, was a charter member of South Bend Civic and Democratic Club, and a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today in Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m.
