Richard B. Sweet 

June 3, 1918 - March 6, 2005

Richard B. Sweet, 86, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Sunday, March 6, in his home. Richard was born on June 3, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Melvin and Lillian (Haquist) Sweet, and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Central High School in 1937.

On Dec. 7, 1940, he married Geneva Kisor, who survives. Along with his wife of 64 years, he is survived by his six daughters, Sandra Ann (James) Lowe of Peachtree City, Ga., Karen Lee Waggoner of Nashville, Tenn., Janice K. (Charles) Owens of Valparaiso, Ind., Rebecca J. VanHuffel of Mishawaka, Ind., Susan E. (Fred) Goldstein of South Bend and Myra J. (Douglas) Eisenhart of Marcellus, Mich.; and by 18 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Eugene.

Mr. Sweet retired from the Bendix Corporation in March 1982. He worked for Bendix for 43 years, where he served as a lab technician in the brake and steering division. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and was a member of the former People's Church, where he  spent time serving the church. Richard enjoyed traveling, his cottage at Gravel Lake, Mich., and especially spending time with family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services for Richard will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the funeral home, with entombment to follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.
