John J. Stygar

John J. Stygar, 86, passed away Oct. 6, 2003. He was born in Gary, Ind., and, as a child, moved to South Bend, Ind.
He moved to Norton, Ohio, in 1994. While living in South Bend, Ind., he worked at the Studebaker Corp. and W.T. Armstrong Co. Mr. Stygar was a life member of the American Legion Post 50 and the Federation of Musicians. He belonged to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Norton.
He is survived by hisloving family: his wife of 56 years, Mary Elizabeth; son, Christoper; daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandson, Christopher and wife, Lisa; granddaughter, Francesca;and two great-grandchildren,Audrey and Julia.
Mr. Stygar served in the Army during World War II as a communications chief. He enjoyed gardening, especially roses.He played saxophone andclarinet in an orchestra during the Big Band era. He loved baseball and football. His family was blessed to have him as a loving husband, brother-in-law, father,and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him as a kind and gentle man.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Rd., Norton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, make donations in Mr. Stygar’s name to American Cancer Society.
