Dale E. Roberts, 84, residing on Fir Lane, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, where he was admitted on Wednesday following a heart attack. He was born April 13, 1919, in South Bend, as the son of Benjamin H.& Rowena B. (Simcoe) Roberts, and was a lifelong resident of this community.

He graduated from Central High School in the class of 1937.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldon E. Roberts and Glenn Roberts; and a sister, Stella Chiddister.

He is survived by two sons, Douglas R. (Gina) Roberts of Waukegan, Ill., and Daniel Roberts of Jacksonville, Fla. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Joseph Roberts and Anne Marie Roberts of Waukegan; and three nieces of his deceased brothers.

Dale served briefly in early 1941 as a flying Cadet in the United States Army Air Corps. He received a medical honorable discharge due to ear problems. He moved to New Orleans, La., in the early forties and served as a chief announcer and newscaster for NSMB, an NBC affiliate in New Orleans, returning to South Bend in the late forties.The remainder of his career he served as a sales representative for various corporations, and retired in 1982 from Fruhauf Corp., following fourteen and a half years.

He was a member of the South Bend Elks Lodge #235, Fraternal Order of Eagles #435, South Bend Moose Lodge #58, and Bowler’s Country Club.

Dale requested that there be no services or visitation. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. The family requests that all memorials be offered to St. Joseph County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 643, Mishawaka, IN 46546-0643. The Palmer Funeral Homes-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements
