JACK H. QUIER TAKES OWN LIFE The body of Jack H. Quier, aged 28, 311 West Dice street, was discovered slumped by the side of the road near his home shortly before 9 a. m. Sunday, the muzzle .22 caliber rifle pressed against the roof of his mouth, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputy Coronear Raymond Nelson declared the death to be suicide. He placed the time of death about four hours before the body was found. Dr. Nelson said that a bullet apparently lodged in the skull. A suicide note was found, deputies said, affirming the statements of close relatives that Mr. Quier had been despondent over ill health.

The body was taken to the Hollis fuheral home. Mr. Quier was born in South Bend May 8, 1919, and lived all his life here. He was for three years with the army air forces in Europe.

He married Rose Hurd here in 1944, who survives him, along with a son, Michael. He leaves also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Quier of South Bend, and three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Myers and Mrs. Geneva Griffin, of South Bend and Mrs. Ruby Weller, of Roseland.

He was employed by Ball-Band in Mishawaka.

Friends will be received in the Hollis funeral home and the funeral will take place there at 2 p. m. Wednesday. Rev. K. F. Dodson, D.D., pastor of First Baptist, church, Mishawaka, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial park
