Gerald D. Newman

Gerald D. Newman, 67, of 1142 E. LaSalle Ave., was dead on arrival at 1 p.m. Monday in the emergency room of St. Joseph's Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Newman retired as the buyer in the men's department of the former Frances Shop. He was born July 11, 1919, in Jacksonville, Ill., and moved to South Bend in 1927 from Illinois.

Surviving are a sister, Margaret Jean Newman of South Bend; and a brother, Harold of South Bend.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St. Cremation will follow. Friends may call until 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

He was a veteran of World War II. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund.
