SOUTH BEND-Services for Carson C. Matthews, 77, of 24918 W. Edison Rd., who passed away at 8 p.m. Monday at his son's home in Columbiana, Ohio, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at the Mausoleum in Highland Cemetery, There will be no services held at the funeral home. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Hanley & Sons Funeral Home, 23421 St. Rd. 23, South Bend, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Cancer Society, The family requests no flowers.

Mr. Matthews retired in 1984 as a school bus driver for the South Bend Community School Corporation. Mr. Matthews previously owned the Matthews Locker Plant and Matthews Dairy in South Bend.

Mr. Matthews was born Nov. 6, 1918, in South Bend.

He married Hester P. (Witter) Matthews who preceded him in death on July 24, 1995.

Surviving are two sons, Robert L. Matthews of New Carlisle, Ind., and Kevin K. Matthews of Columbiana, Ohio; five grandchildren, two great -grandchildren, and three sisters, Kathlyn Schultz of Hudsonville, Mich., Ruth Joan Simpson of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Mary Brunnehmeyer of Tempe, Ariz.; two brothers, Richard Matthews of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Wayne Matthews of Mill City, Ore.

Mr. Matthews was a member of the Lydick United Methodist Church, Vice President of the South Bend, Ind., School Bus Association and a member of the Lions Club. Mr. Matthews was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Corps.

Rev. Kevin Buckley of the Lydick United Methodist Church will conduct the services at the Mausoleum in Highland Cemetery on Friday.
