Robert P. Hine

Robert P. Hine, 82, of Hilltop Drive in South Bend, died Thursday, March 15th in Regency Place Nursing Home.
He was born in Kendallville, Indiana on October 21, 1918 to Orrin and Mable (Rink) Hine, who both preceded him in death, along with his sister LaVonne Dunlap.
In South Bend on April 9, 1939, he married the former Marjorie Hupp who survives. Also surviving is their daughter, Carolyn Hine-Johnson of South Bend; and his niece Nancy Dunlap-Hickey of South Bend.
Robert was a Test Driver for the Studebaker Corp from 1940 to 1958. Then the Director of Public Relations for Morgan Drive Away Co. of Elkhart. And for many years, was associated with Sales in the Manufactured Housing Industry.
Robert was a W.W.II. Army Air Corps veteran, as an Air Corps bombardier where he received the Presidential Citation; Distinguished Flying Cross; Two Purple Hearts; Air Medal with Three clusters; ETO with Five battle stars; and a POW in Germany for which the POW Medal was awarded.
Family and friends may call Sunday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday March 19th at 1:30 p.m. in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Rev. Dr.. Jack Volkers pastor of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, where Military Services by VFW Post 360, Mishawaka will be given.
Robert was a member of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church; VFW Post 360; the Caterpillar Club; Ex-POW Veterans Association; American Ex- Prisoners of Wars; DAV; Modern Woodmen of America; Masonic Lodge #45; Scottish Rite. Mr. Hine was a 1937 graduate from Central High School. He was active in Theater and Dance of our community. He loved people, a very giving person with a quick wit and a great sense of humor
