SOUTH BEND - Mr. Hildebrand was born in South Bend, IN, on January 20, 1919. He was the son of the late Guy S. and Eva Marie (McCombs) Hildebrand. He passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, July 28th, in Yorktown, IN, at the age of 91. He had resided all of his life in South Bend, with the exception of the past 10 years spent on his son's farm in Yorktown.

He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and Purdue University where he majored in engineering.

In South Bend, IN, he was married in 1943 to Elizabeth "Betty" Jane (Dull) Hildebrand. Mrs. Hildebrand died in 2002.

In South Bend he was an engineer in the aviation and automotive industry having spent his career employed by Bendix Corporation. He retired in 1981. During World War II he was active in technology for aircraft engines used in the war. He also worked on brake and fuel systems for aviation and automotive equipment.

A devoted husband and father, Mr. Hildebrand enjoyed his family and friends. He liked to travel and especially liked exploring the western United States. He found studying minerals of interest and spent many trips off the beaten path at various abandoned mine sites and ghost towns.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010, at the Buntin Cemetery in Clinton County, IN, with Rev. Josh Purdy officiating. Myers Mortuary in Lebanon was entrusted with the arrangements.

Survivors include two children, Ms. Nancy G. Hildebrand of Roanoke, VA, and Mr. Brian R. Hildebrand and wife, Vicky, of Yorktown, IN; a sister-in-law, Carol Dull of Thorntown, IN; several nieces and nephews

Deceased, two brothers, Jack Hildebrand and Bob Hildebrand, brothers-in-law, Roger Dull and Robert E. Dull, and a sister-in-law, Elnora Dull, are deceased.
