Estelle E. Newman, 79, of West Eighth Street died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 1999, at her home following a brief illness. Mrs.

Newman retired from the Marshall Field Co. in Chicago where she worked as a computer operator for several years. She interpreted for deaf students in the Goshen school system before moving to Columbus. In Columbus she worked as a rotating teacher's aide, worked at Ivy Tech and also as an interpreter for the deaf for Cummins Engine Co.

She was a 1937 graduate of Central High School in South Bend and attended Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point.

There will be no funeral or calling. Burial will be today at Greenlawn Cemetery at Hartford City. A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. April 17 at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Myers officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County. Arrangements were made by Waters Funeral Home in Hartford City.

Mrs. Newman was born in Elkhart Oct. 15, 1919, the daughter of James Garfield and Marjorie MacLaughlin Fuller.

She married Victor L. Newman June 9, 1946, in South Bend. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Beverly Jameson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, Edward Newman of Columbus, James Newman of Thousand Oaks, Calif., David Newman of Washington, D.C., and Richard Newman of Fairfax, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Fuller.
