Laura Froning Parkinson, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 14, 1920, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Henry Bernhardt Froning and Mary Mildred Cain. She spent her childhood years in South Bend, Indiana, where her father was Director of the Department of Chemistry at Notre Dame University. She graduated from St. Mary's College, South Bend, in 1941 and moved to Wilmington, DE, where she met her husband, Franklyn T. Parkinson.

Laura and Franklyn moved to Wilmington, NC, in 1967 and have been residents since that time. Mr. Parkinson retired in 1977 from Hercules and the two enjoyed extensive travels, both in the United States and abroad.

Laura has been involved in volunteer work over the years including The American Cancer Society, Wilmington Garden Club and the Women's Auxiliary of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The family would like to thank everyone who contributed to her happiness. Laura enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Franklyn T. Parkinson; children, Thomas H. Parkinson and wife Pamela of Mount Laurel, NJ, Ann C. Strasburg and husband Kevin of Wilmington, NC, Suellyn P. Chronister and husband Michael of Grand Junction, CO, William Parkinson and wife Kathleen of Palo Alto, CA, and Mary Ivers and husband Chris of Cary, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kim Micale and husband Ferdinanado, Kris Kent and husband Robert, Kraig Parkinson, Whitney Parkinson and Kathryn Parkinson; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia Micale and Robert Kent.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach. A reception at the church reception hall will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 207 S. Lumina Avenue, Wrightsville Beach, NC.
