Warren A. “Bud” Deahl

Warren A. “Bud” Deahl, 88, of South Bend, passed away at 9:19 P.M. Monday, November 6, 2006, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Mr. Deahl was born on September 18, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Floyd and Sarah (Rosenbury) Deahl, and had been a lifelong area resident.
On November 29, 1941, in South Bend, he married Marjorie (Sears) Deahl, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 64 years, he is survived by two sons, Floyd R. “Dick” (Julia) Deahl of South Bend and John O. (Judith) Deahl of Indiana. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Elizabeth Deahl, David (Julie) Deahl, Richard (Dawn) Deahl and Michael Deahl. There are three great-grandchildren, John, Joseph and Jacob, and one sister, H. Eloise (James) Bryan of Fairhope, AL.
One sister, Eleanor Bernhardt, preceded him in death.
Mr.Deahl was a partner in the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg prior to his retirement in 1985, and its predecessor firm, Thornburg, McGill, Deahl, Harmon, Carey and Murray. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1941 and received a JD degree from its law school in 1944. He was a member of the American, Indiana and St.Joseph County Bar Associations, and served as president and member of the board of directors of the latter association. He was also a Fellow of the American and Indiana Bar Foundations and the American College of Trusts & Estate Counsel. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Indiana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He served as Instructor of Law at the Notre Dame Law School for several years, and instructor of business law and the Chartered Life Underwriters Trust and Taxes course at Indiana University in South Bend for several years. He also served as attorney for the South Bend Community School Board
