Richard E. Burgess Sr.

Services for Richard E. Burgess Sr., 68, of Portage, Ind., who died Sunday evening, Oct 26, 1986, in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, after an illness, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, where members of American Legion Post 454 will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Burgess was born May 15, 1918, in Wabash, Ind., and lived in the Portage area for the last seven years since moving from New Chicago, Ind. His wife, Edith, died in 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Porras and Renne Warfel both of Portage; a son, Richard E. Jr. of South Bend; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Friedline of Mishawaka, Mary Eldridge of Elkhart and Helen Sweeney of South Bend; and four brothers, John of Mishawaka, Harold of San Carlos, Calif., Stewart of South Bend and Bruce of Los Angeles.

Mr. Burgess retired from the former U.S. Steel, Gary. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 454, Local 1014 of the United Steel Workers union, Goodfellows and Portage Senior Citizens
