Donald C. Bates, 61, of 12:23 S. 36th, died at 6:40 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was retired after 35 years as a tool and die maker at ElectroVoice, Buchanan.
Born on Nov. 8, 1918, in South Bend, he had lived here all his life.
In 1970, in South Bend, he married Reba Lutz, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charlene Hunsucker of Jonesburg, Mo., and Mrs. Marjorie Shroff of Elkhart; two sons, Michael E. of South Bend and Richard E. Jr. of Osceola; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday n the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William. Rev. Edmund Peters of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
He was World War II veteran, a member of the Veterans of Mishawaka, and the Disabled American Veterans
