Margaret Baker Gerold, age 42, of Hobart, formerly of Monticello, passed away Friday morning, January 15th, at the Methodist Hospital in Gary.
The body was removed to the Lack Stilinavich funeral home in Glen Park, Gary, where it will remain for friends to pay their respects through Saturday evening. On Sunday the body will be at the Miller Funeral Home in Monticello where friends may call and funeral services will be held in the Miller Chapel Monday afternoon, Jan. 18, at 1:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery. Friends may call after 4 o'clock Sunday. The Rev. Paul Kitley will officiate at the rites.
Mrs. Gerold was born in Monticello, December 15, 1917. She was the daughter of William C. and Fay (Condo) Baker and much of her childhood was spent in this area although the family lived in South Bend for several years. She was married to Russell E. Gerold in 1943 and the couple has lived in the Gary area most of their married life. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Gerold endeared herself to all who knew her with a pleasant personality and true devotion.
Surviving are the husband, Russell E. Gerold, three children, Judy, Jeanette, and Steve, all at home; her mother, Mrs. Fay Baker of Monticello; the father, William C. Baker of Michigan, two brothers, George Baker of Lafayette, and William C. Baker Jr., of Gary.
Mrs. Fay Baker received an emergency call from her son-in-law early Friday morning and she and George Baker of Lafayette rushed to the hospital to be with their daughter and sister at the earliest possible moment. Margaret had suffered an attack some time during the evening and was found in a paralyzed condition by her daughter Judy when she returned from an evening of baby sitting. She had felt much improved and had urged Judy to fulfill her appointment as she had originally planned assuring her that she felt well enough to be left with the two younger children Jeanette, 14, and Steve, 9 years of age. The younger children were in bed and asleep when Judy discovered that the attack. had occurred.
