Richard C. 'Dick' Brown

Richard C. "Dick" Brown, 89, of Park Drive in Niles, died on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Healthwin Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, at Mission Hills, 61453 M-51, Niles. The family will receive relatives and friends from noon until 2 p.m. also on Monday at the Mission Hills Memorial Chapel.
On May 7, 1917, in Three Rivers, he was born to the late Claude P. and Irene Brown. Dick proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. After his return from enlistment, he worked for many years as a police officer in South Bend, Ind. Following, he moved to California and enjoyed working in real estate. When he moved back to Niles and prior to his retirement, he spent 13 years working in Elkhart, Ind. for Bayer Pharmaceuticals. His hobby, which was of great interest to him, was music and he was self-taught in both playing piano and the organ.
His first wife Ethel Farrage preceded him in death. He later married Rosella Burkholder, who also preceded him in death. In addition to his wives, Ethel and Rosella, Dick was also preceded in death by a granddaughter and by his brother, Larry E. Brown.
His surviving family includes a son, Richard C. Brown Jr. of Elgin, Ill.; his sister, Mary (Walter) Patterson of Niles; and a nephew and two nieces, Dennis (Patricia) Patterson, Janice (Bobby) Morrison and Marsha (Kenneth) Burger, all of Niles.
Memorial contributions in the memory of Richard C. Brown may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home and Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, both of Niles
