Ruth Minnie (Seuss) Jacobson

March 13, 1911 - June 2, 2001

Ruth M. Jacobson was born the second of four girls to George John and Minnie (Erhardt) Seuss on March 13, 1911, in South Bend, Indiana. She spent most of her 90 years living in River Park. Since 1998 she had resided in the Shanower Group Home, Mishawaka, Indiana.

She is survived by two daughters, Jill A. (J. Robert) Ross of Granger, Indiana, and Judith L. (Daniel) Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandchildren, Pamela (Allan) Todd of Peachtree City, GA, and Curtis R. Ross of San Diego, CA; two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Hannah Todd of Peachtree City; and by a sister, Marion Rowley of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

On April 10, 1933, in Mishawaka, she married Lewis K. Jacobson, who preceded her in death March 24, 1944. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by two sisters, Esther L. Darr and Margaret L. Oliver.

She was a 1928 graduate of South Bend Central High School. As a young widow she was employed for many years by St. Joseph County and the City of South Bend in the auditor's office, electrical inspection department and as secretary to the fire chief. From 1968 until her retirement in 1983 she was employed as a bookkeeper for Wareco in Mishawaka.

A member of Zion United Church of Christ, she enjoyed quilting at church and sewing for the bazaars. She loved her home, cooking, antiques, teddy bears, and most of all her family. She spent many hours with her grandchildren who cherish the time spent with her and have many happy memories of "Pip", their special name for her. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, with Rev. John Von Lackum of Zion United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions many be made to the church or to the charity of donor's choice
