Nicholas P. Cholis, 87, died on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at the St. Joseph Care Center-West after an extended illness. Mr. Cholis was born in South Bend, Ind., on Sept. 2, 1910, the oldest of seven children born to the late Theodore and Despina Cholis.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1929, from the University of Notre1 Dame School of Arts and Letters in 1933 and the Notre Dame Law School in 1936. Mr. Cholis was a lifetime resident of South Bend and practiced law here until his retirement in 1989.

On Sept. 13, 1940, in South Bend, he married Helen A. Roach, who died on Feb. 12, 1986.

Mr. Cholis is survived by one son, Paul T. (Susan) Cholis of South Bend, and by three grandchildren, Mary of Los Angeles, Calif., and Elizabeth and Nicholas, both at home. Also surviving him are two brothers, Gustave Cholis of Mishawaka and Alexis Cholis of South Bend, and a sister, Mrs. Stacie Fausch of South Bend.

Two brothers, Thomas Cholis and William Cholis, and a sister, Georgia Cholis, preceded him in death.

Mr. Cholis served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Friends may call at the Hickey Funeral Home on East Jefferson from 3 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with burial/entombment to follow at Highland Mausoleum.
