Howard K. ''Bud'' Hruska, 69, of Winslow Court, South Bend, Ind., died in his residence on Monday, July 19.
Howard was born on July 31, 1929, in South Bend, to Howard E. and Mary Jo (Bock) Hruska. Most of his life was spent in South Bend. He was preceded in death by his mother, and by a brother, David C. Hruska.
On March 2, 1973, he married Jane Ridenour Jones, who survives.
Howard is also survived by a son, Robert Hruska, and a stepson, Jeff Jones, both of South Bend; a daughter, Nancy Magee of Lincoln, R.I., and a stepdaughter, Karin Jones of Washington, D.C.; a grandson, James Magee; his father, Howard E. Hruska of South Bend; his brother, Jon Hruska, and his wife, Maureen of South Bend; a sister, Mary Jay Costello of Putnam Valley, N.Y.; a nephew, Jon Kevin Hruska; and by his nieces, Jennifer Hruska Cantrell, Michelle Costello and Jennifer Costello.
Howard graduated from Central High School and attended Indiana University. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1955 from Quonset Point, R.I. He lived in Rhode Island for 10 years before returning to South Bend.
He retired in 1991 from the Farmers Insurance Group as a senior adjuster. He was a member of South Bend Elks Lodge 235. Howard enjoyed boating, golf, flying radio controlled airplanes, and always had a smile for everyone.
Funeral services for Howard K. Hruska will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Mary Hubbard will be officiating. Entombment will take place following services at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive callers from 5 to 8 p.m. today, July 21, in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.
