SOUTH BEND - Clarence R. Harke, 87, of 3610 N. Burgess Road, Muncie, Ind., died Friday morning in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.

He was a claims manager of Indiana State and Employment Security Division and had taught chemistry and history at the former Greene Township High School. He was born July 28, 1907, in Whiting, Ind., and graduated from the former South Bend Central High School, receiving his master's degree from Indiana University.

He married Helen Harke who died in 1991.

Surviving are his son, Terry of Muncie; five grandchildren; and his brother, Milton of South Bend.

He was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, active in Boy Scout Troop 15, a commissioner for Golden Eagle District, a member of Gaston Lions Club and Indiana University Emeritus Club. He had served on Harrison Township Advisory Board and had been a member of Harrison Washington Township School Corp. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Meeks Mortuary Chapel, Muncie. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and prior to service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association
