SOUTH BEND Services for Edward L. Bergan Sr., 85, of Americana Healthcare Center, Elkhart, formerly of South died Tuesday in the nursing home, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cremation will take place with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., where a wake will be at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Bergan retired from the South Bend Police Department as a lieutenant of detectives the records identification and photography division and was in in-service training.

He was born Aug. 11, 1910, in South Bend.

On April 28, 1938, in Fort Wayne, he married Zelma Salisbury. She survives with daughter, Helen Bayman of South Bend; two sons, James R. of Osceola and Edward L. Jr. South Bend; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Ann B. Hobbs of Los Angeles.

He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy, attended the University of Notre Dame, and was a member of St. Joseph Valley Notre Dame Club and Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 553, and was a former trustee of South Bend Maennechor Society
