Nicholas Szalay
Services for Nicholas Szalay, 76, of 1122 N. Ironwood Drive, who died at 5:42 p.m. Saturday in St. Josephs Medical Center, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Szalay was a former employee of the Studebaker Corp. and retired from Allied Products Corp. He was born July 4, 1912, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On Nov. 29, 1941, in South Bend, he married Mary Deranek, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Emerick of South Bend; two sons, Robert of Omaha, Neb., and Ronald of Dallas; three grandchildren; seven sisters, Mary Redpath of Eugene, Ore., Theresa White of Roseville, Calif., Joan Williams of Red Bluff, Calif., Helen Carswell of Mishawaka and Madelyn Szalay, Barbara Szalay and Gizella Szalay, all of South Bend; and a brother, Stephen Salay of Edwardsburg.
Mr. Szalay was a member of United Auto Workers Local 5 and the church
