Paul A. Fergus, 76, of 1501 Marigold Way, a retired advertising executive, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Fergus began his advertising career in 1935. He was employed in advertising at South Bend Lathe Works and Carter, Jones &  Taylor Advertising. He founded the Paul A. Fergus Advertising Agency in 1956. Mr.

Fergus was born June 30, 1912, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Jan. 23, 1937, in South Bend, he married Mary Lenore Walsh, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Leann Schroeder of Lakewood, Colo.; two sons, Paul A. Jr. of Reston, Va., and Christopher C. of Englewood, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Fergus had been the president. of the Sales and Advertising Executives Club of St.

Joseph Valley and the South Bend Civic Planning Association. He also was a member of the South Bend Press Club, the St. Joseph County Mental Health Association, Sacred Heart Church at the University of Notre Dame, the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley and St. Joseph Valley Scholarship Fund. He was active in the Service Corps of Retired Executives. Mr. Fergus was a 1935 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
