Florence (Cohen) Halasz

SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Florence (Cohen) Halasz, 96, of South Bend passed away Thursday in the Golden Living Center, Elkhart. Mrs. Halasz was born Florence Cohen on March 3, 1912, in South Bend as one of 10 children of the late Louis and Bertha (Moses) Cohen.

She graduated from the former South Bend Central High School. Early in her career, before she had children, she was a clerical worker. However, her last ten years or so of working she was a retail clerk at the former L. S. Ayers in Scottsdale
Mall.

On October 18, 1946, she married Joseph Halasz. He passed away February 22, 1999. She is survived by her two sons, Philip D. (Annette) Halasz of South Bend and Mark J. Halasz of North Liberty; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Florence was an avid Bridge player and played well into her nineties. She was a longtime member of Temple Beth El and B'nai Brith.

Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Dr. at Jefferson.
Services and burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to Midwest Assistance Dogs, P.O. Box 1891, South Bend, IN 46634.
