Sister Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Brugger Hillerman

Sister Betty Brugger Hillerman. SFCC, 73, of 220 N. le blvd. de la Paix, died at 11:20 am. Thursday in St Joseph's Medical Center. Sister Hillerman was a faculty member at St. Mary's Academy from 1956-76. From 1976-78, she was a teacher at Marian High School. She was born Nov. 16, 1912, in South Bend, and lived in the area most of her life, except when she lived in Los Angeles from 1946-56. On May 19, 1945, in South Bend, she married William C. Hillerman. He died Dec. 9, 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Eunice Kennedy and Phyllis Watt, both of South Bend; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren: and two sisters, Jane Kuzmitz and Grace Farrell, both of South Bend. 

Services will be at 11:30 a.m Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony G. Farrell, KHS, her nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E Jefferson Blvd.

In 1984, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters for Christian Community. She received a bachelor's degree from Saint Mary's College in 1934. In 1971, she received a master's degree from Indiana University. She was a member of St. Joseph's parish, where she served on the parish council and as an eucharistic minister. She also chaired the liturgy commission. She was a member of the National President's Council of Saint Mary's College and served on the board of directors of the United Religious Communities Inc. She was a former president of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and a past president of Saint Mary's College Alumnae Association. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
