Wayne E. Beard, 53, of 1729 N. Johnson St., died at noon Tuesday in Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, after an illness of two weeks. He was a retired grocer and office manager of the South Bend Hotel Supply Co. at the time of his death.
Born on June 6, 1912, in Waterloo, Ind., he had lived in South Bend for 45 years.
On Oct. 28, 1939, in South Bend, he married Martha Grossnickle, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Minnie Hoover, of South Bend; a son, Gary Wayne, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Kromkowski of South Bend and Sandra, at home, and two brothers, Ralph E. and Kenneth R., both of South Bend.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the Welsheimer Funeral Home.
He was a member of Epworth Memorial Church; Deming Lodge 88, North Manchester; York Rite Bodies, Wabash, Ind., and the New Carlisle Conservation Club
