LIBERTYVILLE - John Miller Beyrer, 87, passed away Friday May 22, 2015 in Libertyville.
John was born and raised in South Bend, IN, and graduated from Central High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II and later graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering.
He married Gloria B. Hawthorne in 1949, and celebrated 59 years of marriage with her until she passed in 2009. John's love of family, faith and friends set a strong example for those whose lives he touched. His deep and strong faith in Christ shone through in his concern for others. He was a dear friend and blessing to many. He exemplified a solid work ethic, character, integrity and how to live life with love and humor. His charitable work included St. Joseph Soup Kitchen, PADS and he served regularly as an usher at church masses.
He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria: loving father of Sharon of Waukegan, David (Diana) of Hoffman Estates, Douglas (Sandra) of Gurnee and the late John K. (Cynthia); proud grandfather of Kristy, Shaun (Jessica), Ryan, Alexa, Jared, Amanda, Hannah, Ethan and Joseph; cherished great-grandfather of Alyssa, Ashton and Madeleine.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1st at St. Joseph Catholic Church,121 E. Maple Avenue, Libertyville, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 31st at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, Ltd., 101 Park Place (Route 176, one block east of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. If desired, donations may be made to the St. Joseph Food Pantry, in memory of John Beyrer and mailed to the church, Attention: Mary Causey, 121 E. Maple Avenue, Libertyville, IL 60048.
