Alpha Alice (Kiplinger) LaMar

March 25, 1909 - Aug. 6, 2005

Alpha A. LaMar, 96, died peacefully with her family nearby on Saturday, August 6, 2005, in Southfield Village. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Alpha was born on March 25, 1909, in South Bend, to Berton John Kiplinger and Mary Alice Cole. As Alpha Kiplinger, she married Paul M. LaMar on June 26, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1960.

Alpha is survived by her daughter, Karen LaMar-Clark of South Bend; two sons, Paul B. (Jeanette) LaMar of South Bend and Michael Duane LaMar of Prescott, AZ; a sister, Lois Kiplinger of South Bend; seven granddaughters, Rhonda (Robert) Klicinski of Hartford, Wl, Paula (Steven) Rumsey of Harrisburg, NC, Linda (Jeff) Burkett of Elkhart, IN, Christine Clark of South Bend, Kathleen (Gregg) Gormal of Indianapolis, Angela LaMar of Pasadena, CA, and Gina LaMar of Nashville, TN; three grandsons, Doug (Maureen) McCoige of South Bend, David (Rhonda) McCoige of Carmel, IN, and Chad (Carri) McCoige of Orlando, FL; eight great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren.

She worked for many years in retail, working at Ellsworth, Wyman's then Brant's before working 12 years at a telephone answering service. She was a lifelong member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, and sang in the choir for over 66 years. She also belonged to the Masonic Temple.

Funeral services for Alpha will be held at Evangel Heights on Thursday, August 11, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services in the church on Thursday.
